The South African Galaxy Championship 2020 will be hosted on Backgammon Galaxy, beginning Saturday June 20th 2020, at 10:00 SA time.

This follows Galaxy Championships for the US, UK, Sweden and Denmark where each nation crowded their national champ – now it’s our turn to join them on the international stage. The final match will be streamed on YouTube, with live commentary by Danish backgammon giant, Marc Olsen, co-host of the tournament.

DATE:
– Begins Saturday the 20th of June 2020, 10am South African time (GMT +02:00).
– Each round must be completed within 36 hours.
– We might shorten round length to 24 hours in the later rounds, when fewer players remain.

FORMAT:
– To win a round, a player must win BOTH the match and the error rate battle (UBC format).
– 11-point matches. In case of a draw in the first match, re-match to 5-point. In case of a draw, re-match to 3-point. In case of a draw again, 1-point matches are played until a winner is found.
– “Normal” Clock setting.
– Analysis setting: Galaxy standard analysis. The loser of the error rate battle, has the right to contest the result with “World Class” default XG analysis, with “normal” search interval.
– Swiss format, double elimination.
